Another New Atomlab Frame

Well you didn't need to wait long for more
Atomlab news! Just as I had finished the previous
post we received news about yet another Atomlab
frame!
This one is unique for them as this will be their first full suspension frame.
The Trailking SS will be constructed from 100% cromoly tubing and features 5 inches of travel. An internal headset keeps out of the way form dirt and grit and the rear end seems to be some sort of bolt through hub arrangement. The SS will be available soon (possibly next month) and is expected to be priced reasonably.

New Atomlab Bits and Bobs Coming Soon

Atomlab have a bunch of new parts coming out and
a new frame, the Trailking.
The Trailking frame continues the traditional Atomlab look with some nice new features such as a box section bottom bracket gusset designed by team Atomlab team rider Thomas Hosford. This new design allows for better tire and sprocket clearance without compromising the overall strength. The Trailking also claims to have the shortest chainstays of any production 26" wheeled bike and weighs in at 5.3 lbs.
Also new are the General Issue cranks, which are made of cromoly, have a splined cromo axle, 4 sealed bearings and are available in lengths 170mm, 175mm and 180mm. Colours black or white.
Other interesting parts are the 'Hydro Twist' and the 'Pimp' and 'General Issue' disc brakes. The Hydro Twist is a hydraulic gyro, which allows the bars to be spun 360 degrees without your brake lines getting twisted and tangled up.
Pimp and General Issue brakes have been designed and made with help from Bengal High Performance Products. The Pimp is a hydraulic brake, and will come supplied as standard with a Hydro Twist. The General issue are a mechanical brake.
Last but not least are the GI 60 jump fork which are a cromoly inverted 'suspension' fork with around 60mm of very stiff travel. They have not been designed to smooth out your local downhill, but instead take the sting out of heavy landings.
Keep posted for more Atomlab parts and contact andi@chinamtb.com for latest prices and availability.

Funn Brakes

Funn have released info regarding there 'new' disc brakes, they will come at different price points and have been tested by some of the top riders out there. To us they look a little like an old Hayes with a makeover (well they are made in the same factory as the old Hayes design so not too shocked). This is the blurb Funn sent out, keep posted for more.
What we offer are solid are reliable brakes that functions well and don't let you down.
We placed our range at price points suited to the majority of bikes produced in the market. We have focused our efforts at keeping the performance high and the price at a more than fair position in the market.
Over the past ten years we've had the great opportunity to develop products with some of the best riders in the world, and that continues to this day. Sam Hill, Kyle Strait, Nathan Rennie, Chris Arriagia, Gee Atherton, Greg Minnaar, Brendan Fairclough, Richard Gasperotti, Sabrina Jonnier as well as the Kuwahara BMX Team have all used and abused FUNN products.
In the future look for Freeride and DH/PARK additions to the line that have new patents and that will give our brake designs the edge in the upcoming years. We put every effort into ensuring you get the very best product at each price point.

Qingdao Skatepark R.I.P
26/10/07 03:04 | Permalink
Qingdao's first and only skatepark was completed
some months back and we at CMTB couldn't wait to
get on it and hone our jumping skills.
However the skatepark is now no more (sad violin music) It turns out after the local council had finished building their metal ramped park, they were a little reluctant to let anyone use it. A bit naffed at this the local skateboarders broke in and had their way on the ramps. The local council were not happy and decided to just take the skatepark away!
Lets hope someone has a change of heart and builds a newer, bigger, proper i.e not metal ramped, park in the future.

Get Ready for Winter: Winter Riding!
18/10/07 08:17 | Permalink
The the dark nights and cold weather rolling in, us riders need to start planning our rides more carefully. Here is a quick list of things you might want to take in to account for winter riding.
1. Clothing
Get yourself a warm pair of riding gloves or use your summer long finger gloves with a thin base glove. This is really important you don't want your hands to freeze up on the downhills and not be able to stop. You should also invest in a lightweight fleece and a waterproof outer shell (jacket) something warm and tough enough for riding in, but small enough to be packed in a bag incase you get too hot. Also get a couple of pairs of thermal base layers, go for the thinner ones (depending on where you ride) as your going to generate a lot of heat while you ride. Last but not least footwear choose something that is suitable for your climate luckily here in Qingdao it's dry during winter so we can use a regular sneakers with thicker socks.
2. Bag
Take a bag out with you when you ride so you can carry spares and extra clothing. There is nothing worse than being stuck in the middle no where with a flat tyre in the icy cold of winter.
3. Your Bike
Get your bike ready for winter give it a good service. Grease all those parts which could possibly seize and get a good quality wet weather oil. I recommend Finishline. Also check your tires and brake pads, are they suitable for the types of conditions you get in winter?
4. Lights
Get some good quality lights, even if you don't plan to ride at night it's worth getting some. Remember lights aren't just for you to see, but also so you're seen by others.
5. Motivation
You're going to need lots to keep riding when the weather gets bad. Try watching mountain bike movies or just do a bit of street riding near your home. Don't vegetate during the winter you'll only regret it next summer.
Winter riding is great fun and brings you challenges you don't get in summer, and also helps you to develop your riding skills. You may be quick on your bike in the dry but how about the mud or even ice?
Just be careful when your out and keep your eyes on those crazy taxi drivers!
Enjoy!

didn't give a reason why they have decided to

be a shame to see them go, but it will be
interesting to see where there talented
riders will end up next year.
Chinamtb are wondering if these plans will also effect plans to put the RN01 in to limited production, we certainly hope not.

They specialize in dirt jumping frames, which can easily be converted into aggressive all mountain/street/ do everything bike by changing the fork length.

It's available in 3 colours black, white or red and weighs in at a mere 5.3 lbs (a feather weight compared to my Banshee Scratch).
If you are interested in the Pimp 2 or any other Atomlab component contact: andi@chinamtb.com for availability and up to date pricing.

Tony Hawk Bicycles?!!
05/10/07 09:36 | Permalink
Not content with being one of the most famous skateboarders in the world, having his own series of successful video games, a clothing company and appearing in the odd movie, Tony Hawk has decided to venture in to the bike business!!
The Tony Hawks bikes will be available in two different ranges. The 'Huck Jam Series' will be a lower end mass market brand, while the 'Tony Hawk Signature Series' will be developed for more serious riders and will feature bikes with carbon frames.
The bikes will be developed in partnership with Dynacraft who are currently known for their range of Barbie bikes available in Toy R Us and Walmart stores!
At this moment we cannot find any pictures of the bikes although there are meant to be some here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bike/1442858101/
But our internet is playing up so we can't see the images.
You can also watch a short video here:
http://www.rip.tv/video/watch/3733/
You don't get to see much of the bikes (at all) but you do see there are some mountain bikes on the Tony Hawks stand and we received news of a 29inch mountain bike hitting the market with Hawk logo!!
What do you think of Tony Hawk's bikes? I imagine we will see a few here in China as most of Dynacraft's bikes are from here.
